article date: Wednesday, January 25, 2017

ref: 3420

Digital One’s national commercial digital radio network has recently gained five new main transmitters. All were launched at the end of 2016 or early 2017.

Strengthening coverage in parts of the existing network, they’re located at:

  • Earls Hill – the Stirling area of Scotland

  • Puttocks Hill – the Ixworth area of Suffolk

  • North Hessary Tor – Princetown and surrounding area of Devon

  • Coker Hill – the area around Yeovil, Somerset

  • Camlough – the Newry area of County Armagh, Northern Ireland

  • Together they bring total coverage of the UK’s first national commercial network to around 90% of the population, using 160 transmitters.
A number of relay sites have also been added in the last few months. These provide a localised level of coverage, but still serve to boost the overall signal strength. Some of the areas to benefit from these include: South Hampshire, Cornwall, Tyne and Wear, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Worcestershire, Cambridgeshire, Nottinghamshire, Kent, Buckinghamshire and Norfolk.

All transmitter broadcast these national commercial stations.
