New national station: Smooth 70s

article date: Friday, December 23, 2011

From midnight at the end of Boxing Day 2011 DAB digital radio listeners will have a new station to enjoy: Smooth Radio 70s.

Created by the team behind the already successfully Smooth Radio, the new service Smooth Radio 70s will play chart hits and timeless tracks from the decade that saw Marvin Gaye, the Bee Gees, Abba and Cliff topping the charts.

Smooth Radio already champions music and artists from the seventies with programmes and features including Kid Jenson’s Double Top 20, the 70s at 7 with Carlos and some memorable documentaries (featuring people like Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond and Beverley Knight). Now they’ve decided to bring the 70s to life all day, every day with their brand new, permanent station.

Many DAB digital radios will automatically update to show the service name, but if you’re struggling to find Smooth Radio 70s, try pressing the Rescan or Autotune button – this makes your radio search for all available stations. If you don’t have a button with that label, then check your instruction manual, as it should have a section explaining how to set up your radio (which will often include how to scan for stations).

Finally, if you’re wondering about the disappearance of Smooth Xmas – it was always planned to be a short-term service as sadly it can’t be Christmas every day of the year.
