ref: 250

The world's largest DAB digital radio network, operated by Digital One, turned on its 100th transmitter at Preseli in southwest Wales today.

The Preseli transmitter brings national commercial DAB digital radio coverage to more than 140,000 people in the area. As a result, DAB digital radio owners will be able to start enjoying Planet Rock, Capital Life, Core, Oneword, Virgin Radio, Classic FM and talkSPORT.

This site further adds to the existing national commercial digital radio coverage in Wales, which was increased in December 2005 with a new transmitter at Blaen-Plwyf.

Preseli is part of a phase of transmitters being turned on by Digital One over the next 12 months. Sites remaining in this phase will continue to extend coverage in Wales and also in East Anglia. Details of these additional sites can be found here.

Paul Eaton, Head of Broadcast Radio at Arqiva, Digital One's transmission provider, said: Its been a great pleasure working with Digital One to bring the benefits of DAB digital radio to a large majority of the country. We will continue to work with Digital One to develop and extend this world-class transmission infrastructure.

Digital One holds the only national commercial licence for digital radio, with a network that stretches from Aberdeen to Penzance, and from Bournemouth to Carlisle. Over 85% of the UK population can now receive the national commercial DAB digital radio stations.
