The world’s most famous radio manufacturers have been squeezed out of the Top 10 by a small firm from Hertfordshire in a consumer vote to find the most amazing digital radio. Sony, Philips and Sharp are among the brands kept out of Top 10 by UK manufacturer Pure – which took all 10 top places in the chart. More than 5,000 people voted in the two-stage poll which was organised by the company behind national digital radio, Digital One. Number One spot in the chart went to the Pure Evoke 3 – a radio with features that allow listeners to pause, rewind and record live radio.

Glyn Jones, Operations Directors at Digital One, said: “When we launched the vote we had no idea which product would come top. The winner is the Pure Evoke 3 which is a high-tech luxury gadget combining a quality radio with an on-screen EPG and the ability to record and store programmes. It’s good to see a car radio, the Pure Highway, taking second place. But with around fifty manufacturers making digital radios, and more than five thousand people voting in the two-stage poll, perhaps the most amazing thing is that every radio in the Top 10 came from the same manufacturer – Pure.”

The two-stage competition received over 5,000 entries. The original shortlist was put together by subscribers to Digital One’s ‘Stay in Touch’ email newsletter who were asked to nominate up to three of their favourite digital radios. Then any visitor to ukdigitalradio.com could vote for their favourite from the shortlist.
