A brand new national digital radio multiplex has started broadcasting today, increasing station choice for millions of listeners across the UK.
The stations will launch progressively from 29 February and ultimately 18 new national DAB digital radio services will be added. These are:
talkRADIO – news, debate and current affairs
talkSPORT 2 – live sports and sports talk
Virgin Radio – rock and pop music
Share Radio – business and financial news
Mellow Magic – relaxing and melodic music
Magic Chilled – fresh laid-back hits
Absolute 80s – 80s music
Kisstory – ‘old skool’ dance tunes and anthems
Heat – pop music, celebrity gossip and entertainment
Planet Rock – classic rock music
Sunrise Radio – Asian music and speech programmes
Awesome Radio – Asian music and speech, with elements of Islamic content
UCB 2 – Christian music
Premier Christian Radio – Christian music and speech
Premier Praise – a brand new station from one of the UK’s leading Christian broadcasting groups
Panjab Radio – extra choice for British Sikhs and Panjabi speakers
Fun Kids – nation children’s radio station
Jazz FM – jazz, blues and soul
Roughly 75% of the UK population live inside the new network’s coverage area, but in order to receive new stations DAB digital radio owners will need to retune their radios. This is normally a simple process that takes only a minute to do. It varies slightly between different radio models, but look for (and Press) the Autotune, Autoscan or Scan button. postcode checker. Please note that Jazz FM, Fun Kids and Magic Chilled all broadcast using DAB+ which not all older digital radios are able to decode.
