Things you never knew you didn't know about DAB digital radio

|
- The average age of a DAB digital radio owner is 44. That's younger than the average Brit (and younger than Jonathan Ross, Ricky Gervais, Paul Merton, Hugh Grant, Caroline Quentin, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders)
- The most expensive digital radio ever sold is a Tag McLaren hi-fi tuner, with a retail price in excess of £2000. By contrast, you can pick up a DAB digital radio for under £40
- British Asians are more likely than any other ethnic group to be DAB digital radio owners. They are also much more likely to be listening to Virgin Radio than the national average
- Planet Rock is the most popular new commercial digital radio station among DAB digital radio owners. Their listeners are not all Jeremy Clarkson types - around one third are women and the average listener age is 35
- With many more stations to choose from, it should be no surprise to learn that DAB digital radio owners listen to nearly five more hours of radio per week compared to people who still use old analogue technology
- The perfect length for a DAB digital radio aerial is 31.5cm (based on the frequency used to broadcast the national commercial digital radio stations). This may mean that you get slightly better reception if you don't fully extend your telescopic aerial
- One in five readers of The Independent newspaper already own a DAB digital radio - that's a higher percentage than any other daily newspaper
- DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting (but you don't need to know that). It's based on the Eureka 147 standard (but you certainly don't need to know that!). It's mainly governed by ETSI Specification Number - EN 300 401 (but you absolutely, positively, definitely don't need to know that!!)
- DAB digital radio owners live longer and happier lives than their analogue counterparts. They are seven times more likely to win the lottery and four times less likely to become ill*
