For Retailers

Britain is a nation of radio lovers - 99% of us (that's more than 43 million adults) have at least one radio in the house, and adult listeners tune in for an average of 23.9 hours per week (Rajar Q3 2006).

When commercial digital radio launched in November 1999, early adopters were the first to make their mark on retail sales. Today, with prices falling and product arriving in quantity, the next wave of consumers is already on board. Less specialist, less audiophile, these customers are drawn more by the increased choice than the improved sound of DAB digital radio.

5 star retailers

Following a period of market research using 'Mystery Shoppers', we have identified a number of retailers which we believe provide the best service to consumers interested in DAB digital radio. We have named these selected stores 5 star retailers. When visited by our mystery shoppers, they showed a good knowledge of the benefits, were enthusiastic about the medium, and were also able to give a good demonstration of DAB digital radio products.

5 star retailers benefit from a range of opportunities and when Digital One initiates retailer marketing activity, our first approach will always be to 5 star retailers. In order to qualify to be a 5 star retailer, you will need to score well in the following areas:-

  • Have at least one DAB digital radio in-stock
  • Be able to proficiently demonstrate the product to customers
  • Ensure that you and your staff know the key benefits of the medium, which are; superb sound quality, products that are easy to tune and use, text information, and no need to retune when on the move for in-car products. Probably the biggest benefit is the increased choice of stations (existing national and local stations available digitally, alongside a wide choice of exclusive new national and local stations).

If you stock digital radios and want to be considered as a 5 star retailer, please let us know.
