BFBS Radio
BFBS Radio is unique: a community station on a global scale.
BFBS is the British Forces Broadcasting Service, playing music from the 60s to now and providing messages, news and entertainment for the British Forces, their families and friends around the world. The global BFBS Radio network spans more than 20 countries, from Afghanistan to Germany, the Falkland Islands to Cyprus, Northern Ireland to Belize - and now across Great Britain on DAB digital radio.
The roots of BFBS Radio were in north Africa during the Second World War and the station has been with the British Forces through the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the Falklands War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Balkans conflicts, the handover of Hong Kong and the two Iraq wars. BFBS Radio studios have looked out over Victoria Harbour from Hong Kong Island, Basra Air Station in Iraq, the Banja Luka Metal Factory in Bosnia, Singapore, Nairobi, Berlin, Kosovo, Cologne...
Stars whose broadcasting or film careers started in Forces' Radio include Roger Moore, Cliff Michelmore, Barry Davies, Peter Donaldson and Sarah Kennedy. John Peel, Tommy Vance, Kenny Everett and many more radio legends were a part of BFBS Radio for many years. The new generation of BFBS Radio talent includes Sim Courtie at Breakfast, Lynne Duffus in the afternoon and a host of presenters who’ve lived and worked with the British Forces everywhere from Iraq to the Falklands.
BFBS has editorial independence from the Ministry of Defence and its own in-house, 24/7 news service. The station covers Forces’ sports events such as the recent Army v Navy rugby clash at Twickenham and also runs free ‘community ads’ for Forces events such as charity fund-raising campaigns.
If you want to connect with the Forces community, tune in to BFBS Radio - now available across Great Britain on DAB digital radio.
